HISTORY
In 2005, former JAADE Dance Theatre members Keisha Breaker, Kim Jackson and Lacreacia Sanders met to create a dance commissioned by Breaker. Although the trio performed countless numbers together over the past ten years, this collaboration was different; change was evident. A sense of forward movement had taken place in each of them on both personal and professional levels. This growth ultimately impacted the work they produced. "Many aspects of JAADE will never leave us. We are still dedicated to the mission of inspiring and educating. Those elements are rooted in us but as we individually have redefined ourselves and our goals, we simply feel like another phase has begun," says Breaker who serves as one of the company's co-artistic directors.
Breaker, Jackson and Sanders sought to create a company focused on developing and mentoring aspiring artists and educators and help them transition into the professional world while refining their creative voice as well as their craft. This phase of their journey would be one focused on the relationship among the community, education and the artist. Phase 2 Dance Ensemble is a think tank, a master class, and a blank canvas all wrapped into one. By re-imagining the artist, we expand the role of creativity and the crucial role it plays in the human condition.
