MISSION

Phase 2 Dance Ensemble is a dual city modern dance company existing in both the Houston and Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplexes. It is a partnership among like minded artists committed to full self expression, artistic development, and the restoration of creative communities through the collaboration of artistic ideas, enhancement of choreographic and pedagogical concepts and the promotion of independent works.

Phase 2 Dance Ensemble is one of the founding members of Barefoot Brigade.  The Barefoot Brigade is a coalition of area modern dance professionals and enthusiasts working to improve exposure, accessibility, and economics for Modern Dance. Barefoot Brigade seeks to work alongside the larger community to develop the audiences, venues, and financial resources necessary to make North Texas a nationally-recognized community for the creation and presentation of innovative dance works. Their mission is to improve exposure, accessibility, and economics for Modern Dance through a coalition of professionals and enthusiasts. Barefoot Brigade’s members will strive to develop a vibrant Modern Dance community that is nationally recognized.  Aside from its participation with Barefoot Brigade, Phase 2 has performed in the Dance for the Planet Festival (Dallas), Big Range Dance Festival (Houston), and the Hype the Choreographer Showcase (Dallas, TX).

HISTORY

In 2005, former JAADE Dance Theatre (Fort Worth)  members Keisha Breaker (Houston), Kim Jackson (Carrollton) and Lacreacia Sanders (Fort Worth) met to create a dance commissioned by Breaker. Although the trio performed countless numbers together over the past ten years, this collaboration seemed different. Change seemed evident. A sense of forward movement had taken place in each of them on both personal and professional levels. This growth ultimately affected the work they produced. "Many aspects of JAADE will never leave us. We are still dedicated to the mission of inspiring and educating. Those elements are rooted in us but as we individually have redefined ourselves and our goals, we simply feel like another phase has begun," says Breaker who serves as one of the company's co-artistic director.

As human beings we all struggle to be heard, to call ourselves powerfully into existence in the way that we want others to experience us.  Phase 2 Dance Ensemble strives to be the catalyst for those voices by creating an environment where artists not only have the experience of being heard, but they are enabled to show the world the essence of full self expression.  Audiences throughout Texas can expect to be moved, touched and inspired by the bold and audacious nature of Phase 2 Dance Ensemble. Their works incorporate original music, inventive props, innovative media sources along with poetry and spoken word.
